IARAI is delighted to be part of the 34th Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) 2020 this year, both as a Platinum Sponsor and as the Traffic4cast Competition organiser!
We are organising several scientific events during the NeurIPS conference and you are welcome to join our sessions and meetings to discuss our latest research and find out about academic opportunities at or with IARAI. This year, NeurIPS is a virtual event with the around the clock schedule so that participants around the world can find a convenient time to join.
Traffic4cast session during the NeurIPS Competition Track
At NeurIPS 2020, IARAI is presenting the results of its Traffic4cast 2020 contest as a part of the NeurIPS Competition Track on Friday, December 11 at 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM PST (1:00 AM – 1:45 AM December 12 CET). This session features a summary of the Traffic4cast core competition, where the winners of the competition and the teams selected for their high impact contributions will outline their work.
Traffic4cast Special Session
An in-depth discussion of the Traffic4cast core competition results will take place during the Traffic4cast Special Session on Friday, December 11. This session includes two parts: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM CET (0:00 AM – 4:00 AM PST) and 5:00 PM – 9 :00 PM CET (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST). The session will be opened by an introduction by our very own Sepp Hochreiter and followed by two keynote lectures by David Levinson (University of Sydney) and Razvan Pascanu (Deep Mind).
The event is free and open to everyone (NeurIPS 2020 registration is not required). If you are interested in attending the session, please register here.
Fireside Chat Sessions
Last but not least, IARAI is excited to announce two Fireside Chat Sessions as a part of the NeurIPS conference:
- Hopfield Networks in 2021 – fireside chat between Sepp Hochreiter and Dmitry Krotov on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM CET (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM PST) hosts Sepp Hochreiter (IARAI) and Dmitry Krotov (IBM Research). The panelists will discuss the impact of their recent groundbreaking research on dense associative memories and modern Hopfield networks, and the link to the attention mechanism of Transformers – from theoretical, biological and physics perspectives.
- Performers and Memory – fireside chat between Sepp Hochreiter, Krzysztof Choromanski and Johannes Brandstetter on Thursday, December 10 at 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM CET (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST) hosts Sepp Hochreiter (IARAI), Krzysztof Choromanski (Google Research) and Johannes Brandstetter (JKU Linz). The panelists will discuss the new linear attention mechanism in Performers, which significantly improves computational efficiency for large inputs, and its connection to classical Hopfield networks .
Both session are free and open to everyone (NeurIPS 2020 registration is not required). If you are interested in attending the sessions, please register using the following links:

IARAI – Ask Me Anything
IARAI is organizing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Thursday, December 10 at 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM CET (8:00 AM – 8:30 AM PST), chaired by IARAI founding directors David Kreil and Michael Kopp. During this session, participants can learn more about the institute, its research directions and activities, as well as career opportunities, and ask questions.
The event is free and open to everyone (NeurIPS 2020 registration is not required). If you are interested in attending the session, please register here.
